Last week, the FAPSTC team was pleased to participate in Deafness Awareness Training provided by Access Plus WA Deaf’s Nobuo Hara and Maddie, an Auslan interpreter. This training gave us an insight into Deaf culture, a greater appreciation of the barriers and challenges faced by Deaf or Hard of Hearing people, and tips on how to be more inclusive and improve communication.
Access Plus also deliver three levels of Auslan (Australian sign language) training:
- Basic teaches over 300 signs
- Intermediate focuses on conversation skills
- Advanced teaches Auslan linguistics and grammar.
Businesses, schools and individuals would benefit from the Deaf Awareness Training.
