Purpose and Industry

Coverage

Operating since 1992, Financial, Administrative & Professional Services Training Council is one of eight industry training advisory bodies recognised in Western Australia’s Vocational Education and Training Act 1996. We provide strategic insight and direction to the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) and the State Training Board (STB) on matters relating to changes impacting industry, emerging influences on workforce development, skills shortages and training issues.

Our coverage spans a range of industries across six broad industry groups:

  • Financial, superannuation and insurance services

  • Administrative, employment and support services

  • Rental, hiring and real estate services

  • Professional, scientific and technical services

  • Business, professional and labour association services

  • Public administration and safety

Training Council Objectives

We represent and advocate for industry to support skills development and access to relevant training services. Our work informs the State Training Plan, WA’s Vocational and Education Training policy and funding priorities based on identified priority occupations, and the establishment and variation of traineeships.

A not-for-profit organisation

We are a not-for-profit organisation, providing high-level strategic advice and leadership to government, Registered Training Organisations, peak bodies, industry and schools on issues related to workforce development, training and skilling. Operating since 1992, we are governed by a Board of Management, comprising employers, peak bodies and industry organisations.

Our consultation explores changes impacting industry, emerging influences on workforce development, skills shortages and training issues. We provide strategic insight and direction to DTWD and STB on the training needs and skilling priorities of industry in Western Australia to optimise employment opportunities and the availability of appropriately skilled labour across each of our industry areas.
