The Department of Health (WA) licenses and regulates pest management technicians and pest management businesses in Western Australia. Any person who wants to work in the pest management industry in Western Australia must obtain a pest management technician’s licence from the Department of Health. It is a breach of the Health (Pesticide) Regulations 2011 for any person to work unlicensed or to operate a pest management business that is not registered by the Department of Health. To be eligible for a licence a person must have completed training approved by the Department of Health.
The Department of Health has determined new training and licensing requirements to enable delivery of the new CPPM30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management in WA. Completion of units has been mandated for attainment of provisional and full technician licences across commercial domestic pests (with optional units for termites and timber pests), feral pigeon control, fumigation and termite treatment for power poles. Currently, the superseded CPP30115 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management is in transition with an extended teach out period ending on 29 September 2021. This means that any student currently enrolled in the CPP30115 qualification will need to complete their study prior to the September deadline.
