The right to disconnect laws take into effect from 26 August 2024 for non-small business employers and their employees where practicable. A non-small business employer is an employer with 15 or more employees at a particular time.
The new law gives eligible employees the right to refuse employer or third-party contact outside of working hours in certain circumstances. Details of how the laws work and examples of scenarios are explained by the Fair Work Ombudsman here.
