The latest data from the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment shows that in the 2021 September quarter, there were 102,000 female apprentices and trainees in training across Australia, 60% higher than before the pandemic. A number of government initiatives have provided opportunities for women to participate in training, apprenticeships, and traineeships, including trade-related apprenticeships during this time. This article looks beyond these initiatives and figures to consider what more can be done to draw women into education, the vocational education and training sector and ultimately the workplace.
